Overview

Hunger Solutions New York issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to a diverse pool of firms, and following a meticulous evaluation process, JPD emerged as the selected firm for the project. The assignment entailed a comprehensive overhaul of their website, necessitating a bespoke redesign with a particular emphasis on enhancing content and information architecture. The existing website had become outdated and was no longer aligned with the needs of its audience.

To enhance the user experience and streamline the user journey, our team conducted a thorough content audit. This involved a meticulous restructuring and reorganization of the content hierarchy. Additionally, we implemented visualization tools designed to expedite information retrieval, thereby empowering users to access relevant information with greater efficiency.

Strategy & Design

The strategy work included an in-depth content audit and complete overhaul and remapping of the information architecture. From this work and the large amount of content that needed to be streamlined, we designed a robust mega menu that allowed user to easily navigate the site sections at a glance and quickly find the information they needed.

We also conducted surveys to understand the site users' pain points and needs. Subsequently, we utilized the information gathered to develop custom, interactive visualization tools aimed at addressing those issues.

Program Locator Tool

We created an interactive, searchable map to help residents of NYS easily search by zip code in NYC or by county within NYS to locate NOEP Coordinators that help you check your eligibility for SNAP benefits.

Sortable Online Table

JPD built an interactive data table allowing users to quickly locate School Breakfast Participation data by County (or multiple Counties) or by School District (or multiple School Districts). To make the tool intuitive, we integrated the ability to click on a column header allowing the user to sort column data alphabetically or numerically. This digital tool was optimized for all devices especially for tablets which are used at HSNY events.

NYS County Map Tool

Working with the Hunger Solutions NY team, JPD built a customized interactive WordPress map tool that allows users to quickly locate and view participation rates for programs within a specific NYS county by either hovering on a county or selecting the name of the county from the drop-down. This was identified as an important and desired function as many users aren't aware of the exact county borders, the location or exact spelling.
