The National Comedy Center in Jamestown, New York, is opening its doors on August 1st, 2018! As the first of its kind, the state-of-the-art museum is completely dedicated to the art of comedy in America. As a nonprofit cultural institution, the museum will feature more than 50 interactive exhibits celebrating some of comedy’s greatest minds and unique voices, from Charlie Chaplin to Dave Chappelle. Upon arrival, visitors create a sense-of-humor profile that is embedded onto radio-frequency ID wristbands that navigate them through the exhibits!
We worked closely with The National Comedy Center team to create their polished, highly branded, bold, and easy to navigate website. It was important that the site captured the fun and edgy voice of the brand and the dynamic energy of the museum’s technology. Upon visiting the website, users immediately get a taste of what to expect when visiting the museum.
For the website design and user experience, we carried over the brand’s established color palette for both visual impact and to highlight clear calls-to-actions. We also incorporated movement throughout the site with expansive scrolling photo banners and parallax movement giving the site an interactive feel. One of our goals was to ensure the website was tightly branded and carried through the playful visual elements and color accents found throughout the brand’s visual identity and the museum’s design.
We established an intuitive user journey which guides the user through the site allowing them to easily view upcoming events, purchase tickets, plan visits (and group tours), become museum members and make donations. We also handled the design and branding of the third party ticketing application used to process ticket purchases. By keeping the main site design and ticketing platform design consistent, there was an unnoticeable transition between the two platforms making purchasing tickets on the site seamless for the user.
Lewis Black appeared on the The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to talk about the National Comedy Center and their grand opening.
